What happens to your recycling
Last year we recycled and composted over 38 per cent of our household waste, making Oxfordshire one of the highest recycling counties in England. Recyclable materials collected by your district council and accepted at the county council's Waste Recycling Centres are made into new products:
- paper is recycled into newspaper, magazines and cardboard. So make sure to buy paper products made of recycled paper.
- glass bottles and jars from your home are recycled to make new bottles and jars, or are sometimes crushed and used as road aggregate.
- plastics can be made into a wide range of products such as bin liners, carrier bags or even fleece jackets.
- textiles can be recycled into new textiles or used as filling material in car insulation.
- metal cans (aluminium or steel) can be recycled into new cans or a host of other metal goods such as fridges and cars.
